Martha's Vineyard Experiences | Things To Do & Activities
PETER SIMON
Vineyard Haven
Cultural District and
Aquinnah Circle Cultural
District Martha’s Vineyard
The year-round port of Vineyard Haven offers a
walk-able adventure exploring both the historic and
the new, with delightful stops for arts, shopping and
dining. The Martha’s Vineyard Museum celebrates
the island’s diverse heritage, and former whaling
captains’ homes line the downtown. Don’t leave
without treating yourself to some Murdick’s Fudge,
a Vineyard staple.
Aquinnah Cliffs
The Aquinnah Circle Cultural District is at the heart
of the home of the Wampanoag Tribe of Aquinnah
—a feast for the senses that encompasses a historic
redbrick lighthouse, the Aquinnah Cultural Center,
several eateries and the Aquinnah Overlook above
vibrant clay cliffs. Stop at the Wampanoag family
operated shops and peruse handmade native jewelry,
wampum, clothing, scrimshaw and pottery.
Chappaquiddick Island
Martha’s Vineyard
M. BOSSMAN
Chappaquiddick Island’s eastern edge is a barrier beach
that extends for seven miles from Wasque Point past the
remote Cape Poge Lighthouse. Explore the area in all its
glory on a guided kayak tour or in an over-sand vehicle tour
given daily by the Trustees. Nestled within Chappaquiddick
is Mytoi Gardens, a small Japanese-style oasis set
within an open pine forest. Winding footpaths take visitors
through a birch walk, camellia dell, stone garden and
hillside garden; the garden’s signature feature is a small
pond with an island reachable by an arched bridge.
It’s so much
more than
a ferry ride.
It’s an
escape.
More boats and more departures
